The Asus EEE PC1000 review
by Pierre Boisvenue. OCT 15, 2008
The netbooks landscape has changed quite a bit since Asus introduced the EEE PC701 in 2007 as explained in a previous article.
The Linux based 7” display allowed for a quick boot on the internet via WIFI and Firefox. At the time,
the price was right and portable to sit on my lap comfortably. Already the rumours were flying that Asus
would come out with a 9” display. I figured that an upgrade was not for me and was quite happy with the 701.
Then more manufactures join the party and came out with reasonably priced netbooks of their own such as the Acer aspire one,
MSI wind and HP 2133 just to name a few with 10” displays and depending on system choice comes pre installed
with either Linux, Windows XP or Vista.
The EEE 1000 comes in several configurations and opted for the EEE PC1000H with the following specs.

Now nothing wrong with Linux but XP Home allows me to leverage the software I already have.
The unit comes preinstalled with ESET's antivirus software and DVD player.
WIFI connectivity was easy to configure and so was connecting to a network share.
Using two fingers instead of only one to scroll vertically a web page makes it more
difficult to scroll by accident which is a nice addition and the screen brightness and
resolution is quite superior to the PC 701. Since the unit does not have a CD/DVD drive one needs to be creative in installing software.
If you happen to be connected to a home or network LAN then one can share a CD/DVD drive over the network or create an
ISO to be loaded off a portable USB drive. Click on the image below to see the
