Booting Linux Ubunto from a bootable CD

Booting the Linux desktop edition Ubunto from a bootable CD on my laptop allowed me to finally
look at Linux up close. Ubunto is impressive and comes
with standard applications.
During the boot process Linux recognized my video card, wireless mouse, wireless network
card but not my proprietary Sony vaio hot keys. I think there is a patch for it.
It comes with OpenOffice and the Firefox web browser. It recognizes my USB flash drive and could read files off my other NTFS partition.
After I had created a word document in Office XP, in Ubunto I could read the document, edit and save.
After a few days however, for some reason the file had an error and could no longer access the document.
Overall I was impressed with what Linux as to offer that I ordered an Ubunto book off Amazon.
At this point in time I still boot in XP and Vista but will be sharing more Linux observations as time goes by.
There is a lot of history behind the free software foundation and the open source movement
that I would like to study. As a Microsoft Certified Application Developer I think it is time to
look at what Linux is all about while keeping an open mind.
