External Hard Disks Part 3

Let me tell about a little miracle called BartPE. This little program is a must have in your toolbox. Imagine being able to boot to windows XP SP2 from a single CD. Yes BartPE allows you to do so and with the help of plugins to extend the XP environment. If your recall in part1 and part2 I discussed about the need for me to be able to ghost my entire hard drive via an external USB device. Now I’ve attempted several techniques presented on the web to load a USB driver from a DOS boot disk without success until I found out about BartPE.

The nice part of BartPE is that it’s free and you simply required to have your copy of windows xp and a blank CD or CD-RW. If you system depends on external SATA drivers your will required to load them up during the BartPE loading process via a Floppy(F6) or simply include them in the pre build environment of BartPE.

Now that Windows XP support USB device means that my SFAP(Seagate Free Agent Pro) is visible from the BartPE Windows XP environment.
