External Hard Disks Part 1

I stumbled across a good article on zdnet about external storage and after reading the reviews on the Western Digital My Book I opted instead to consider the Seagate FreeAgent Pro. What I like about the unit is that aside from being usb 2.0 and Firewire compatible it also supports the newer ESATA interface so instead of relying on a data speed rate of 400Mbps ESATA provides 2,400Mpbs, a big difference.

Yet again ESATA means that I have to purchase an ESATA PCI card and use up one card slot. The cards are cheap on eBay yet are unavailable at the moment near a Future/Best Buy outlet near me. What is puzzling for me now is with the fact that this Seagate unit will be twice as fast as my internal SATA drive yet and the reason I am considering the unit is to serve as a backup device. Would I be able to boot an OS from it? Time will tell.
